Forest dwellers protect the forest. All facilities under the Forest Rules must be extended to them. More livelihood opportunities based on development and processing of forest resources must be ensured, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Monday.
He was holding a review meeting of Kanker district officials during his last leg of direct public interaction drive (Bhent-Mulaqat), an official communication said.
He said that Kanker, known for its forest resources, is known for rally cocoon (silk) and millet mission (Kodo, Kutki and Ragi). The officials should ensure value addition to Kodo, Kutki and Ragi so that they become a major source of income for people.
Already, due to the government policy of procurement and processing of forest minor produce, a wide array of opportunities have been opened for its collectors and traders, he said.
He asked officials to expand the infrastructure for development of tourism as Kanker is known as the gateway of Bastar. With resorts like Tatamari, Limdarha and other facilities, Bastar is rapidly developing into a tourist hotspot.
The Chief Minister said during his direct interaction with the public in Surguja and Bastar, people had few complaints regarding public services.
“Maintain the dedication and accountability while performing the duties of public service,” he said.
He added: “We are collectively working towards the goal of establishing peace, prosperity and progress across Chhattisgarh.”
