‘Digital library to conserve Chhattisgarh folk culture’

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday called for establishing a digital library to preserve different dimensions of the state's rich culture.

It will help educate future generations and also give a new identity to the culture of Chhattisgarh, he said.

Holding a review meeting of the Culture Department here, Baghel emphasized the need to take assistance of experts to compile vital information related to artists of various genres, an official statement said.

This will include folk music, folk dance and folk literature.

Baghel said many musical instruments are prevalent in tribal folk culture but many are unaware of this. Their names, mode of playing and other information should be stored digitally. Ditto for folk dances and folk artists of different regions of the state.

The Chief Minister called for promoting young artists by ensuring they get benefits from the Culture Department. New and young artists must get more exposure through government cultural events along with the established artists.

Anbalagan P, Secretary, Department of Culture, said a Swami Vivekananda Memorial Building being built will reflect his biography, spiritual journey, stay in Raipur, his foreign trips and more through different galleries.
