Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday that Chhath festival symbolizes energy and gaiety.
The Bhojpuri community around the world gathered on the banks of ponds, lakes and rivers to express their reverence to Sun God.
Baghel announced Rs 1 crore for the beautification and development of Chhath Talab.
He said this while attending a Chhath Puja programme organized in Bhilai Sector-2. He also attended an event at Bhilai-Khursipar.
Chhattisgarh after Bihar is the only state which has declared a public holiday on Chhath festival.
Respecting the religious faith and spirit of the people in Chhattisgarh, the government has declared a general public holiday, Baghel told the gathering.
