The Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party has demanded from the Centre to declare paddy’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) at Rs 2500 per quintal .

This apart from a demand to take excess stock of paddy from the State other than its use by Chhattisgarh’s Public Distribution System (PDS) into Central Pool.

A demand regarding the same was raised by party’s State General Secretaries Shailesh Nitin Trivedi and Girish Dewangan at a press conference held at state party headquarters Rajiv Bhawan here on Wednesday.

The leader duo also claimed that the newly formed Government in the State had implemented the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee which suggested for providing 1.5 fold price of production cost of paddy.

The State Government took initiative to provide Rs 2500 MSP per quintal of paddy and that was a key aspect of the Swaminathan Committee report and Chhattisgarh had became the first state in the country to do so, they said.
