‘Agriculture transforming in C’garh with distinct policies’

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said transformation is taking place in Chhattisgarh's agriculture sector due to distinct policies. Also, organic farming is becoming a viable option due to a shortage of chemical fertilizers.

He was addressing a public meeting at Jamul after inaugurating and performing bhoomipujan of development works worth Rs 7 crores in the Municipal Council in Durg district, an official communication said.

Stating there will be no shortage of funds, he announced opening of a Swami Atmanand English Medium School, construction of a dome in a government school, installing electric poles in four wards and beautification of four ponds in Jamul.

He said with increasing shortage and price hike of chemical fertilizers across the country in last two years, organic farming is the best option, Baghel said.

Chhattisgarh has already provided the option of organic manure in form of vermi-compost through Godhan Nyay Yojana. It will also help to reduce farming input cost.

The state government is providing input fiscal assistance to farmers through the Rajiv Gandhi Kisaan Nyay Yojana. Now landless labourers are covered by a scheme that fetches them Rs 6,000 a year.

He gave away cheques, financial aid and uniforms to beneficiaries under different schemes.
