Study centres

A study by KEM Hospital doctors has established a direct link between Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), an air pollutant, and respiratory cases of cough, wheezing and fungal and bacterial infections.

The study found pigeons nesting around homes as another unusual cause for repeated pneumonitis and asthmatic attacks among people who spent more than 10 hours indoors. Pigeon droppings hosts the growth of a fungus called aspergillus that severely affects human lungs. It is a cause for concern. It’s natural to think that we are safe from pollution in our homes, as we can close the windows. However, our household air quality may not be that much better. The air quality in our homes is something we don’t really think about, but maybe we should.

It is the individual's responsibility to be more aware and better equipped to understand the quality of air they breathe. In all major cities, especially Delhi and Mumbai people have started talking about both outside and indoor air pollution, its adverse health effects and the need to have clean indoor air.

But indoor air purifiers with a solid track record and that adhere to the stringent Clean Air Delivery Rate and air filter standards set by Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), go a long way to helping people avoid the now proven health threats posed by breathing polluted air, at least indoors where we work, rest and play.
