We all have had a cheat diet once a day  to satisfy our sudden cravings, especially during the recent times when many of us are spending time back at home. Watching a movie without something to munch on seems like a big no, but that doesn’t mean you have to take the unhealthier ways.

For all those who are looking for a healthy snacking option, pisatchios are here to solve your woes. Not only they are much healthy but a recent study has found that they are a complete protein too.

Dr Mike Roussell, globally renowned Nutrition Consultant, Author and Advisor, tells you that  the research showing that American Pistachios are a complete protein is extremely important because it shows that they contain nine essential amino acids that your body needs in a form that is readily absorbable and available for your body to use.

The virtual session with Dr Roussell about American Pistachios being a complete protein was organised by American Pistachios Growers, a non-profit trade association.

“This is unlike other plant proteins that are incomplete and where you need to add other complimentary proteins to get the essential amino acids,” he explains.

Dr Roussell adds that American pistachios are your one stop shop as a source of plant-based protein. They are portable, they don’t need to be cooked, you can enjoy it as an anytime snack wherever you are.

“American pistachios makes for a superfood for children as they being a complete protein promotes growth. They have more protein than any other nuts. It is also a good source of fibre for children and unlike broccoli you won’t have to force feed it your kid,” he says.

American pistachios are also a great food for people with Diabetes.

“If a person eats a cup or half of pistachios at night, it might help keep their blood sugar in control the next morning,” Dr Roussell tells you.

Pistachio being an easy to eat snack, also promotes mindful eating in adults. “One has to slow down, break the nut and then eat it. This leads to mindful eating. They are also great to carry in lunch boxes and help children switching from the traditional carbohydrates,” he tells you.

In a study done in China on pregnant women, it was shown that the nut prevents gestational Diabetes in them.

To add to the benefits, one can eat them anytime throughout the year. Unlike other nuts, they don’t need refrigeration too. “You can eat them as much as you want. Preferably one to three cups a day, is a better option,” Dr Roussell tells you.

For those who want differentiate between Iranian and American pistachios, the later are naturally white and a little bit oily. “Even if one is on diet, he can eat it without gaining extra weight. A serving or half won’t affect the weight. The reason being they are full of healthy fat,” he says.
