Though the chill is yet to set in, some people are already facing the problem of dry skin. While growing up, our elders had some simple home remedies that were extremely effective, says Roshani Devi

Winters come with its share of problems. After the intense summer months, a nip in the air is welcomed. But our skin feels the effect — dryness, itchiness and lack of moisture makes the skin look and appear dull. Here are some easy home remedies.

  • One of the easiest ways to tackle dryness is to use glycerine. Wash face and leave it slightly damp. Use a cotton ball to apply glycerin on the face. Avoid the eyes and the lips. Leave it on overnight. One can add lemon juice and rose water to the gylcerine and apply the solution. Benefits: It is a natural moisturiser and helps to hydrate the skin.
  • Use a mashed avocado with two tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture on the face and neck and leave it on for 10-15 minutes and wash with water. Benefits: Avocado has healthy fats, Vitamins E and C, and carotenoids. They protect the skin and keep it hydrated.
  • Use aloe vera. Apply the gel on hands and feet and cover the affected area with a sock or glove. One can do this before they go to bed and leave the gel on all night.
  • Apple cider vinegar. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of water and apply the mixture on dry patches. Do this once a week to keep the dryness at bay.
