If the baby is fussing or crying, there is no fun for the parent or the tiny tot. ROSHANI DEVI shares home remedies that one can follow to soothe a wailing toddler
We all love a laughing and playing baby. But if he cries, as parents, they worry. Babies cry for many reasons — they need a diaper change, or a burp or they are hungry. Other times, it could be because he is colic. Don’t panic.
First, rule out the common problems like the baby is hungry.
Second, check for fever or a runny nose and then a doctor needs to be consulted. But if the baby still continues to fret here is what one can do:
Rock your baby by placing him in the arms, stand with your feet slightly apart, and move back and forth at the hips. If you get tired, use a rocking chair.
Wrapping your baby is perhaps the best way to calm a fretting baby. Tightly wrap the baby in a blanket. Some babies prefer to have their arms out as they may want their freedom. In any case, this helps the baby sleep better and for longer hours.
Some babies calm down to ‘shhhh’ sound; it reminds them of the womb. One can buy a special white-noise machine or mobile.
Even babies get bored and this can lead to all the fuss. Make silly noises and faces. Sit on the floor and play with the toys. Some babies love it when you read a book.
Take a drive. The smooth, consistent motion of a car lulls many fussy babies.
