The perfect smile needs to go with healthy gums. ROSHANI DEVI shares home remedies that one should add to the oral hygiene for overall  well-being like brushing twice  daily and flossing

We all know that the bacteria in our mouth are constantly forming a sticky substance known as plaque. When we brush and floss, we get rid of it. However, if we don’t follow a healthy oral hygiene, it can lead to several gum-related problems, like bleeding gums and gingivitis which can ultimately lead to tooth decay and loss. Here are a few tips that one can follow:

Neem: We all know that the leaf has anti-bacterial properties. Cleanse your mouth with a mouthwash with neem twice a day. You can also prepare a mouthwash at home and use this. One can also make a mouthwash using sea salt. Dissolve a small quantity of sea salt in a cup of warm water. Swish the solution in the mouth for 30 seconds before spitting out.

A natural ingredient that could provide you with great gum health is clove oil. Take some cotton, add a few drops of clove oil in it and rub the gums with it. If there is inflammation, place the cotton on the area for immediate relief.

Extracts of green tea are a good remedy for gum-related problems. Drink two to three cups of green tea every day till the problem vanishes.

Coconut oil: It is great for treating gum disease and infections. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Mix two tablespoons each of coconut oil and baking soda. Use this as a toothpaste once or twice a week on a regular basis.
