Rainy season has its benefits — it helps recharge underground water & balances the Earth’s weather, but it brings woes to the people with skin problems. Here are simple home remedies to deal with them, says ROSHANI DEVI

Most of the skin problems that occur during monsoon season are not life-threatening and many of them can be treated at home especially fungal infections that are caused due to prolonged exposure to dirty rainwater and humidity. Here are a few things that one can do:

Athlete’s foot: A common problem that many face when their feet are exposed to dirty water over a period of time. The skin turns greenish and there are itchy patches filled with pus. Soaking the feet in vinegar or bleach solutions can be helpful. Of course, the trick is to keep the feet dry at all times. Alternatively, carry an extra pair of shoes to work.

Ringworm: The infection occurs in the shape of a ring on the body due to fungal infection. Avoid scratching the infected area and wearing synthetic clothes. The best remedy is to use apple cider vinegar which has anti-fungal properties. Soak a cotton ball in undiluted apple cider vinegar and brush the cotton ball over the infected area. Do this thrice daily.

Nail infection: Dirt and mud that accumulate under the nails lead to fungal infection. Keep short nails, wash the feet once you are home and remove dirt from under the nails.
