Staying healthy during monsoons is not always easy. The high humidity level weakens our digestive system. But including a few foods in your daily diet with the right nutrients helps, says ROSHANI DEVI
There was a reason why our elders changed their food habits with the change in seasons — to get the right nutrients and stay fit. But with advancement in agriculture, we get almost everything round the year. While this is good, it does create havoc with our digestion. A few tips that will help:
One of the most important rules is to eat seasonal vegetables like bitter gourd, parwal, tinda and cluster beans (guar).
Some easily digestible spices during monsoon are garlic, hing, pepper, ginger, turmeric, jeera powder and coriander. Try and use them while cooking instead of other spices.
Fruits are good for the body as they help us in restoring the energy. Go for mangoes, apples, pomegranates and pears.
Pakoras and samosas go well with tea and coffee during monsoons. But fried foods are not good for health as these tend to have high salt levels. They are also high in fat content which can be dangerous for BP patients. The chances of gaining weight are high as well.
Besides eating healthy food, it is important to take care of other aspects which include wearing ironed clothes.
Closets get damp during rains. With moisture come molds. A good way to get rid of these is to iron your clothes before you wear them.
