PEARS: Also known as Nashpati, Pears are rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and dietary fiber and pack all of these nutrients in a fat-free, cholesterol-free, 100-calorie package. Pears have the ability to fight infection, diabetes, cancer, colitis, arthritis, osteoporosis, gallbladder disorders, and gout. These are exceptionally high in fiber, which keeps your system regulated. Since their skin provides about half of the pear's total dietary fiber as well as its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, it is best to not peel the fruit but eat the entire pear. Combine pears with mustard greens, watercress, leeks and walnuts for a delicious salad. Add chopped pears, grated ginger and honey to millet porridge for a pungently sweet breakfast treat.
