Smelly feet have nothing to do with genes. It has everything to do with hygiene and can be reversed with good care, says Roshani Devi

Recently, there was high drama in a Himachal volvo bus over smelly feet of a certain passenger who point-blank refused to throw away his socks or do something to stop the killing odour from making co-passengers sick. The situation came to such a passe, that the bus driver had to drive to a police station to resolve the issue and also treat the passengers who were throwing up.

Indeed, smelly feet can be demoralising and embarrassing but are extremely usual too. Here’s how you can save yourself from both:

Phitkari is an ageold astringent often used to stop bleeding. It goes well for foot odour too. It has properties to prevent bacteria growth in feet and also block sweat glands.

White vinegar works well too. Pour1/2 cup of white vinegar into six cups of hot water and add a few drops of lavender oil to it. Soak your feet in this mixture for 15 minutes and then wash them with soap daily.

lavender oil by itself is also effective. Add a few drops of lavender oil in warm water. Soak your feet in it for 20 minutes and pat them dry. Repeat this soak twice to get rid of the the problem permanently.

Pumice stone helps remove dead skin cells and, thus, odour. Clean your feet with pumice two or three times a week and you will be good to go.

Then there is the good old baking soda. Fill a tub with warm water, add baking soda to it till it turns milky. Soak your feet for 15 minutes daily and pat dry.
