Cracked and dry heels can be extremely painful and are a common problem during winter months, says Roshani Devi who lists some home remedies

Winter months bring its own set of problems and one of the most common ones is cracked and dry heels. However, there are several home remedies that one can use to ensure that your heels are smooth and beautiful.

First, one can use vegetable oils like sesame, olive or coconut oil to replenish the much-needed moisture. Using one of these oils daily is the easiest home remedy for cracked heels.

Second, rice flour is another great way to get rid of cracked heels. It is a great exfoliating scrub. Take three tablespoons of rice flour, two teaspoons of honey, one or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, a few drops of olive oil (optional) and warm water

You soak your feet in warm water for 15 and remove dead skin cells with a towel. Add apple cider vinegar and honey to the rice flour to make a thick paste. Add olive oil and mix well. Apply this mixture to your heels and you rub gently. Massage your feet for 10 minutes and wash with warm water. Do this every day till cracks disappear.

While the above process can be a bit tedious, this one is very simple. Squeeze juice of a lemon in half a bucket of water. Soak your feet for 10 minutes. The acidic properties of lemon help to dissolve the dead skin and it comes easy to remove it. Use a soft foot brush to scrub your feet.

Using baking soda helps too. Fill a bucket with warm water and add baking soda. Soak your feet in this for 10 minutes. Scrub feet gently with a pumice stone. Rinse feet with clean water. Do this twice a week.
