Smog is not just harmful for the lungs but equally so for the eyes. ROSHANI DEVI tells you how you can give them a safe cover

Though where I come from air pollution is non-existent but our mega cities, most particularly Delhi, have been enveloped in toxic fumes. Here are some remedies you can use to protect your eyes which are most vulnerable to pollution infections and side-effects that can grow to be dangerous for vision.

Do not rub your eyes: Yes, we all know that even in A/C closed cars, your eyes feel itchy and full of soot. But do not rub them at any cost as that will damage them and cause further irritation and even redness. Splash them with clean water and put a few drops of rose water in them for relaxation.

Wear closed-eye glasses:  When going out, ensure that you wear sun-shades or simple eye covering glasses to keep the pollutant matter away. Much like the masks you are wearing over your nose, it is equally imperative that you protect your eyes. But shades which clasp the outer circle of your eyes.

Use cold compress: It is crucial that you relax your eyes from all the vagaries of going out in these smog-ridden times. So, once you are back home, lie down and relax with cucumber roundels, rose water dipped cotton pads or ice bags over your stressed out eyes. Do so after a thorough splash. They will help you rejuvenate for the next outing.

Use tear drops: The first and major fallout of pollution is dryness of eyes. So, use tear drops or lubricating eye lotions to keep your eyes moist and safe. Keep a tear-drop bottle handy for a break through the day.
