With the festive season coming up, there is always a binge waiting to happen to you. ROSHANI DEVI tells you how to survive the overeating & drinking

We all succumb to binge eating — and drinking — at a party or for a festival. Here are some steps to take for the uncomfortable day after:

  • Even if it is late night after the binge/party/festival, do take a half-hour walk in your colony. Besides helping you clear your mind, it also settles down the hectic chemical activity in your stomach for the night to go off smoothly without all those painful  chemical reflexes and indigestion issues.
  • Keeping hydrated during the day of the party is very essential because if you are having alcohol it dehydrated you. The same happens if you are having festival goodies like fried foods and sweets. Besides stressing the stomach and giving you calories that you may not have bargained for, a binge often leads to headaches and high blood pressure.

The day after should dawn with at least a bottle of water on your bedside table which needs to be consumed empty stomach. Try out as a therapy and for those who hate having water in the morning — have liquid concoctions like nimbu paani, green tea, honey solutions etc.

Have a non-cereal non-dairy products breakfast the next day. Keep it high on citrus fruits and an apple. The antioxidants and vitamin C in these fruits are a good therapy for your heavy stomach. Try avoiding salt intake till lunch time and you will be good to go for platter normalcy by dinner time — which, incidentally, needs to be consumed before 8 pm or at least three hours before you hit the bed for the day.
