Not all pinks are good for health, a fact I discovered as a young girl who caught conjunctivitis. But granny had things in place to make the recovery fast, says ROSHANI DEVI

The dreaded conjunctivitis is in season, thanks to all the rains and muck. Back in my days, it used to be much severe and many would lose their sight due to this painful eye infection. Here are some things you could try in conjunction with the doctor’s prescription:

Dried calendula flowers are magic to most eye inflammation. All you need to do is soak a tsp of dried calendula flowers in a cup of hot water and let them rest for half hour.

After it cools, strain it through a muslin cloth. Wash your eye with this through the day.

Also, use cold compress to deal with the itchiness and burning sensation.

Put a cold moist eye wad on both the eyes and let it rest for five minutes. Do not use the same wad for both eyes or the infection may spread.

My granny used to keep black tea soaked cotton pads for relief. You could try that too.
