With growing obesity, high uric acid levels have become usual. Discipline & home remedies work in curbing it, says ROSHANI DEVI
Uric acid is a silent killer, and a very common one at that. It results in acute stiffness and joints pain and if not treated or curb can go on to give you the utterly painful gout.
If on the higher side of weight, you keep a watch on your uric acid levels and essentially stay away from high protein diet till it comes under control. Add to that alcohol, sugary foods, veggies like cauliflower, spinach, peas and mushrooms, and you have a no-no list at hand. Here are some ways to cut down on this acid with some home remedies:
Water: We all know water is the sole calorieless liquid which flushes out toxins, including excess uric acid. At least 10-12 glasses daily is a good fix.
Apple cider vinegar: Add 3 tsp vinegar to 8 ounces water. Have 2-3 times a day and uric acid will reduce.
Cherries: Those luscious red things have amazing anti-inflammatory substance (anthocyanis) that helps reduce uric acid and blocks its intent to crystallize and deposit in the joints. 200 gms a day is good to go.
Apple: Malic acid in apple neutralizes uric acid and provides relief in pain. An apple a day, as the saying goes.
lime: The citric acid found in lime is a solvent of the uric acid .The juice of half a lime squeezed into a glass of water should be taken twice daily.
Celery seeds: Celery seed extract is best.
