There are several home remedies that one can follow to keep those mouth and tongue blisters at bay, says Roshani Devi

Today, I will tell you some things about healing at home, small remedies that can skip the doctor. But before I go on to the routine there’s a little nugget I would like to share with you, something I picked up from one of my journeys, and something that led me to understand our very own Hindustani treatments. So, it’s actually all about local produce and how it gets to define regional medicinal value. Take the example of West Indies, the land of rum and cola as you youngsters would know it. But did you know rum is often used by Bajans as a remedy for headache and sometimes as a ploy to sleepIJ A good old West Indian would rub some drops of rum on his forehead to deal with an irritating headache. It really goes away in 10 minutes without a medicine. For light and frenzied sleepers, a few drops on the pillow apparently do the trick. Back in my home in Himachal, there’s a somewhat stunning medicine that my grandmother used to apply on me for mouth blisters. She would take a pinch of the wood ash from the chulha and rub it on my tongue. Yes it’s black and horribly smeary but it does the trick. The other thing that works wonders is the good old coriander seeds. You just need to dry roast them, let them cool and then chew them. A perfect therapy for mouth and tongue blisters. So much for now, other let-ins in my next column.
