The nation is agog with debates and discussions about the ‘One Nation, One Poll’ theory though the Centre has not made any announcement about the same other than constituting a committee to study the feasibility of such a step.
While the Opposition parties are unanimous in their aversion to ‘One Nation, One Poll’, many of them, including rationalists and Communists, are making a beeline for astrologers to know what is in store for them if the Centre goes ahead with a single poll plan.
“Those who call me over the phone from New Delhi, Chennai or Kolkata want to know whether the INDIA alliance would succeed in the ensuing poll, whether they would get seat to contest and if so, whether they would win the election,” said a leading astrologer from Kerala who has an international clientele from Asia and Europe.
“Those who called me include politicians and analysts who force the people to focus on scientific temper and not to waste their time on obscurantism, “said the scholar who did not want to be named.
He further stated that these people reminded him of passengers who get into reserved railway compartments through underhand dealings while oppose the people who resort to the same measures.
There are politicians in the Congress and the Communist Party who want to know whether they would gain by joining the BJP.
“Please don’t ask the names of these persons because you will be shocked if I tell you who they are,” another star astrologer told The Pioneer.
The subject of astrology is all set to be discussed in the coming days as the nation is getting into the poll mode.
The fact that astrology is looked down upon with contempt by our intelligentsia is interesting.
This brought to mind how the late Dr Krishna Kumar, who headed the Coimbatore Aryavaidya Sala (Ayurvedic Hospital) having been trained as a doctor in the traditional Gurukula style by his uncle, himself an acclaimed physician, treated his patients.
The first thing the doctor would ask his patients were about the date, time year and place of birth. The details played crucial role in the diagnostic style of Dr Kumar who was honoured with the Padma Shri.
Though the Sunday editions of all newspapers carry features on astrology, they fail to report how astrology is making waves among the scientific community. Professor BM Hegde, internationally respected cardiologist who was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, wrote in the editorial of the super peer reviewed magazine ‘Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes’ that the science of astrology needs some introspection by scientific astrologers.
“We have to assume many things in astrology which is being criticized by outsiders. Little do they realise that even in the king of sciences, mathematics, numbers are only assumptions. “Rahu and Ketu might not be seen through the Hubble’s Telescope but they are assumptions for calculations like the North and South Pole which are not marked on the ground,” writes Professor Hegde. The professor also lambasted western science which keeps inconvenient scientific data from coming into their mainline journals. “Unless one breaks the western scientific monopoly of the so-called scientific knowledge, this world cannot progress,” Prof Hegde writes. He says the science of astrology could be sold to the world by refining the accuracy of the predictability.
Before signing off, Professor Hegde says that the idea that the stars or a constellation of them have some influence on human birth and life can never be scientifically refuted.
