Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the new National Education Policy (NEP) is in sync with the nation’s roots and has gained unprecedented acceptance from the entire country. Noting that the NEP is rooted in “Bharatiyata” while assimilating global perspective, Shah said the policy enriches knowledge and culture and is aligned with aspirations of society. Shah said under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the NEP 2020 is a foundation for building a great India and this education policy will be the cause behind a great India.
“The purpose of education is to develop character, empathy, courage and prepare students to deal with challenges of life. Education can enable India to reach the pinnacle of success. Society is looking up to us with expectations and hope to make it happen. Our educational aspiration is not only for earning degrees and certificates but also to achieve global good,” Shah said at an event on the completion of two years since the launch of the NEP.
“The National Education Policy is in sync with the roots of the nation and has gained unprecedented acceptance from the entire country,” he said.
“The policy has clearly stated that a robust public education system is foundation of a thriving democratic nation. Purpose of the NEP is to develop citizens who combine national pride with global good with the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” he said.
The Home Minister also noted that the NEP is an antidote to Macaulay’s system of education designed to colonise our minds. Shah launched a slew of initiatives in the education and skill development sector to mark the completion of two years of the NEP.
The NEP approved by the Union Cabinet in 2020 replaced the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and was aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.
He further said that the NEP 2020 enriches knowledge and culture and is aligned with the aspirations of society. Shah stated that the Centre and States should work as a team for its effective and successful implementation. He also urged the States to chalk out a strategy for its effective implementation.
The several initiatives under the NEP-2020 cover the entire spectrum of education and skill development verticals including areas like digital education, innovation, synergising education and skill development, teacher training and assessment.
The initiatives launched in the presence of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan include Mobile App for Public Consultation Survey for National Curriculum Framework, School Innovation Policy, National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA), Vidya Amrit Portal, Skill India Partnership with IGNOU for the three-year degree programme and Skill Hubs under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Vidya Amrit portal is being enabled for scaling up the micro-improvements taking place in school education in different parts of the country.
