Canada has provided shelter to Khalistani terrorists, and terrorist organizations associated with them are actively seeking funding from this source. Canada has acknowledged this. Canadian research revealed terrorist financing tied to Khalistani militants in the nation. It has long been known that Canada provides a safe haven to Khalistani terrorist groups such as Babbar Khalsa, the International Sikh Youth Federation, and Sikhs for Justice, but Ottawa (Canada’s capital) has now admitted for the first time that these groups operate on Canadian soil and receive financial support. The politically motivated violent separatist category includes terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. The research indicates that Canada once provided significant financing to these groups, but today, only a small number of individuals still feel motivated to support them.
Many Sikhs recall the violence that happened during partition, the assault on the Golden Temple, and earlier attacks on Sikhs in India. And in Canada, people may speak out about their worries. But it doesn’t mean that Sikhs in Canada want an independent Khalistan or bloodshed. By the way, those who support violence could break Canada’s hate speech laws.
During their discussion at the G-7 summit, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for mending ties between the two countries, but the Canadian Government did not commit to taking action against Khalistan supporters. The Canadian Department of Finance has issued an assessment study on the dangers of money laundering and terrorism funding. According to the report, Khalistani organizations are “suspected of raising funds in multiple countries, including Canada”. The report indicated that extremist groups are exploiting charitable trusts for drug trafficking and auto theft.
The report stated that Canada remains a centre for terrorism financing. Khalistani militants are also misusing the non-profit sector and donations from immigrants.“These groups once had a large fundraising network across Canada but now consist of a few individuals who support the cause without specific ties to any group,” the report stated. It identified different funding methods for these groups, including crowdfunding and cryptocurrency. The report stated that these terrorist groups “employ various funding methods to support their operations, including the misuse of MSB and banking sectors, cryptocurrencies, state finances, the charitable and NPO sector, and criminal activities.”
While talking to many of the people in Punjab, nobody actually discusses this imaginary Khalistan thing IN Punjab. People who are in Canada, the UK, and other countries are debating making Khalistan in Punjab, but people of Punjab don’t want it. So, this Khalistan thing is never going to happen. Actually, Power-hungry, greedy people such as Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and others are among the handful who embrace this. To gain some political notoriety and influence, they attempt to indoctrinate individuals to embrace this fictitious Khalistan movement.
Indeed! The Khalistanis have gained a stronger voice thanks to the large number of Sikh students coming to the country. Many Sikh students in places like Brampton may see Khalistan as a way to connect and build community. They are involved because it helps build community among Sikhs, but it’s not a positive approach. There have been clashes with Hindus in these areas. I don’t think they would have felt this way in Punjab.
Generally, there are diasporic Sikhs whose parents experienced the 1980s ordeal, passing down this hate to their children. They are outspoken like Najjar, who was killed. Khalistan, like other separatist movements, often lacks a basis in reality. An independent Khalistan may struggle with self-sustainability and could be annexed. Sudan experienced several civil wars, leading to the formation of South Sudan. However, the South experienced its own civil war. This is just imaginary thinking and a vague sense of pride, but it’s not realistic. They can chant and try everything, but it won’t work. India appears to be targeting them as well, but it doesn’t matter. The movement poses no threat, yet India seeks to silence everyone involved.
Rest confident that Sikhs would never lend their support to any separatist movement, whether it is in Punjab or anyplace else in India. They do not need any kind of certification since they are proud of their Indian heritage. They are a community that has always been at the forefront of providing services to the country, but it is also necessary for the country to acknowledge that those who suffered in 1984 are still waiting for justice to be served.
Khalistani terrorists are finding sanctuary in Canada. The presence of Khalistani militants in Canada is evident from videos, witness testimonies, and media reports. But there has been a clear lack of action from the Government over the past few years. People have accused former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of ignoring terrorist activities against India. The focus now is on whether his successor, the new Prime Minister Mark Cerny, will solve this long-standing matter between India, Canada, and the Khalistani militants.-
