In a significant move to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is planning to reconstruct the Old Najafgarh-Gurugram Road.
The project, once completed, is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, particularly those from Najafgarh, Bajghera, and those traveling via the Dwarka Expressway.
The proposed reconstruction aims to revitalise a historically significant stretch that connects Kamdhenu Gaushala to CRPF Chowk and leads to Dwarka Expressway through the Bajghera railway overbridge (ROB).
The road, long used by locals, will now be positioned as an alternative route to divert traffic from overburdened main roads such as the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, also known as National Highway-48.
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection along with senior engineers, including Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka. The team assessed the feasibility of reviving this neglected route, with a clear directive to coordinate efforts across all concerned departments.
According to officials, the reconstruction of this road will significantly reduce travel time to Dwarka Expressway to just 10-15 minutes. Apart from providing a faster commute, the project is expected to support the expansion of public transport, including new bus services and improved access for private vehicles.
MLA Mukesh Sharma highlighted the broader impact of the project, saying, “If this road is reconstructed, it will bring a big change in the traffic system of Gurugram and strengthen connectivity with Delhi.”
The plan goes beyond infrastructure; it is seen as a catalyst for planned urban development in the region. The MCG envisions the reconstructed road as a lifeline for millions of residents, capable of addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps while supporting economic and real estate growth.
“This is not just a road project but a symbol of how planned development can transform regional mobility,” said Commissioner Dahiya. “It will ensure better connectivity and reduce pressure on other key routes.”
However, the project also faces potential challenges such as land acquisition hurdles, inter-agency coordination complexities, and the need for environmental clearances.
With the feasibility study underway and planning in progress, the MCG is moving steadily toward turning Old Najafgarh Road into a major transport corridor for Delhi-NCR. If successfully executed, this initiative promises not just better roads but a new chapter in the region’s infrastructural development.
