In a bone chilling incident, a 19-year-old civil engineering student allegedly stabbed his father, mother and younger sister to death in Kishangarh area in Vasant Kunj of South- West Delhi for opposing his lifestyle and forcing him to study, said police, adding that the bodies were found on Wednesday morning.

After being put to sustained interrogation by police which reached the three-room house at 5.20 am after being informed about the incident by a neighbour, the couple’s son Suraj confessed that he was cross with his overbearing father, possessive mother and younger sister — who reported everything to their parents — and hence stabbed them with a kitchen knife.

Suraj was arrested and further investigation is being carried out to ascertain whether the accused had administered some sedative to his family members as there was no sign of struggle visible with the victims who were identified as Mithlesh Verma (45), his wife Siya Verma (40) and their daughter Neha (16), said a senior police officer.

Earlier in the day when police reached his house to begin probe, Suraj created an alibi saying his house was attacked by robbers who murdered his parents and the younger sister and claimed that he had lost consciousness out of fear, police said.

Senior police officers, who scanned the murder spot, were not convinced with Suraj’s narration of the incident.

The investigating officer said the house was ransacked, but no valuables were found missing and police found Rs 50,000 in home and mobile phones of the slain family members near the bodies.

“The accused tried to create a false narrative to mislead police. He, however, could not explain as why he was not attacked, as his finger was only injured. There was enough evidence to suggest that it was Suraj who was behind the killing. He was put to sustained interrogation and blurted out the sequence of events,” said Ajay Chaudhry, the Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Range).

According to one neighbour Ishwar Lal, at around 4:45am, a neighbour Yogender Pintu, who was coming back home from the hospital saw Suraj shouting for help saying that his parents were killed.

“The neighbour jumped into the house and called police. Yogender went inside and found the three victims with stab wounds and he saw Suraj weeping. However, the door was locked from inside so Yogender unlocked the door. Suraj had an injury on his finger. We did not hear any scream or any sort of noise,” Ishwar said.

“The murder weapon used in the triple murder has been recovered,” said a senior police official.

The victim Mithilesh’s elder brother Chandrabhan told The Pioneer that he heard about the incident at around 5:30 am. “My younger brother and I work in the interior business, Neha was in Class IX,” he said, emphasising that it was an outsider’s job. However, he didn’t want to comment on whether the victim had any personal enmity with anyone.

Earlier in 2013, neighbours stated that Suraj was allegedly kidnapped when he went to the market to buy books. Suraj claimed to have been dropped off at Modinagar because of a curfew after which he called his father. However, no ransom calls were made, their neighbour added.
