Female wrestlers who have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), of sexual harassment approached a Delhi court on Monday to request a copy of the chargesheet filed against him.
The police had filed a chargesheet against Singh, who is also a BJP MP, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation on June 15. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal, who is scheduled to review the chargesheet on Tuesday, directed the complainant’s lawyer to apply for a certified copy at the court copying agency.
The chargesheet also mentioned Vinod Tomar, the suspended assistant secretary of the WFI, for his alleged involvement in the offenses. Apart from the present case, another First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act based on allegations of sexual harassment made by a minor wrestler.
She was among the seven female grapplers who accused Singh of sexual harassment. Both the FIRs describe multiple instances of alleged sexual harassment, including inappropriate touching, groping, stalking, and intimidation by Singh over a period of ten years at various locations.
