'World-class' T3 fails to hold water

Published on:

The sprawling Terminal 3 of  Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was yet again inundated after heavy rainfall on Saturday. The waterlogged premises caused great inconvenience to air passengers as after crossing the hurdle of traffic jams, they were welcomed with ankle- deep water in the forecourt of the airport. The facility resembled a vast swimming pool with heavy rain inundating the forecourt at the arrival area.

Though there were no major disruptions in the flight schedules but heavy waterlogging posed a question on the emergency measures placed by the Delhi International Airport limited (DIAl).

A flight of the Malaysian Airline was diverted to Ahmedabad owing to the heavy shower. The runway visual range (RVR) was bad since darkness had enveloped in the area and heavy downpour added to the poor visibility.

This is not the first time when T3 was submerged during this season. The first day of monsoon on June 16 had wreaked havoc in T3 as the entire arrival lounge was flooded. Passengers had to wade through the cesspool with DIAl officials looking the other way.
