Describing BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as an ‘enemy of humanity’, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday said the Gujarat Chief Minister had “blood of innocents” on his hands and asserted that he would not allow Modi to turn UP into a Gujarat.
Addressing a huge rally in Varanasi, Mulayam attacked the BJP for picking up Modi as its PM nominee and said Modi was playing divisive politics to garner votes. Kicking off the party’s poll campaign in Poorvanchal for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Ramnagar (Trans-Ganga), the SP chief asked the BJP: “Was there only Gujarat CM in the party to be declared its PM candidateIJ”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced opening of a medical college for the residents of Varanasi and Chanduli and declared that a new tehsil would be created in Mughalsarai.
Addressing an impressive gathering on Bawanbigha Ground, the SP chief said that the BJP was trying to confront him and questioned Modi’s achievements regarding the poor and the farmers.
Hitting out at the Congress, Mulayam said that despite six decades of independence, one-sixth population in the country did not have enough money to celebrate their festivals and had to go to bed without having a square meal.
He blamed the Congress for the plight of the people since it was in power at the Centre for a long period.
The SP chief said the Congress had done nothing for the country except giving scams and price rise.
Describing the UP Government as the only ideal Government in the country, Mulayam appreciated the efforts of his son Akhilesh for fulfilling poll promises in a short span. The forthcoming lok Sabha elections, he said, would be an important one for the SP, and it would play a crucial role in the formation of the Government at the Centre.
Mulayam exhorted party workers to go to people and apprise them of party’s policies and State Government’s achievements.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav claimed that his Government did a lot during the last one-and-a-half years and added that it was good news that the UP was being compared to other States. He, however, added that a conspiracy was being hatched against the SP and only the negative side was projected by the media.
Akhilesh blamed the media for making a big hue and cry over Safai Mahotsav and claimed that the Government was committed to work for the interest of the common man. He attacked Opposition for making a false propaganda against his government asked party workers to be cautious about it. He also appealed to party workers to make Mulayam country’s PM.
SP general secretary Azam Khan also blamed the media and said that it did not want peace in Muzaffarnagar. Advocating a code of conduct for the media, Khan asked party workers not to pay any heed to such coverage. Ministers, including Ahmad Hasan, Balram Yadav, Om Prakash Singh, Narad Rai and Manoj Pandey, were present on occasion. Durga Prasad Yadav conducted the rally and lal Mohammed presided over it.
