Woman gangraped in car from Gurugram to Gr Noida via Delhi

Close on the heels of brutal gangrape of a married woman in Gurugram, a 35-year-old woman was abducted from IMT Manesar and thrown out of a car in Greater Noida in the wee hours of Tuesday after being allegedly raped for hours by three men as they drove through the National Capital Region, police said.

The woman was found around 4 am outside “Chacha Ka Restaurant” at Greater Noida’s Golf links, away from where she had been abducted. A passer-by informed the Noida police about the incident after he saw the woman in a dishevelled state. Police took her to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. She was then referred to Government hospital as it was case of gangrape, said a police official.

Police said that that the woman was abducted from Sohna area in Gurugram around 8.45 pm on Monday and flung out of a moving Swift car several hours later. “Some beer bottles were also found from the spot which indicates that the accused were inebriated at the time committing the crime,” a senior Greater Noida police officer said. “We are in the process of recording her statement,” the officer said.

The woman, who belonged to Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, told police that she had been walking near her residence in Sohna on Monday night when she was pulled into a car by the unidentified men.

She said they molested her and took turns to rape her in the moving car for at least four to five hours. After driving through Delhi, they reached Greater Noida, where they threw her out in a dark spot before escaping.

They also allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she approached the police. The woman had come to Gurugram some 10 to 15 days back and was staying with her family in Sohna area.

“We have taken the details from Gautambudh Nagar SSP luv Kumar. A team of Gautambudh Nagar police is arriving in Gurugram to examine the sequence of the crime. We are examining whether they lodged a zero FIR in this regard. We are assisting Noida police and are investigating the matter,” said Gurgugram Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar.

The Gurugram Police said they received the information about the incident at 4 am. The Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of police (east) Deepak Saharan and DCP (crime) Sumit Kuhar too were present at the Sector 29 police station when the woman recorded her statement in the presence of a woman lawyer.

Police teams are examining the CCTV footage of major roads in the NCR region to get some clues, he added.

No arrests have been made as yet. Sources said the role of an auto driver has also been revealed in the incident. His role came out after questioning of the victim.

It may be recalled that on May 29, a woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped in Gurugram’s Manesar area and her nine-month-old baby was smothered and thrown out of the moving auto. She, too, was left on the roadside after about four hours.

The incidents underscores that women continue to be vulnerable in the region, more than four years after the Dec 16, 2012 gangrape and murder of physiotherapy intern. The incident also highlights that police patrolling continues to be poor, particularly during the night in places like Gurugram and Gautambudh Nagar.
