Woman doc’s throat slit in Delhi, suspect doctor on run

The body of a 25-year-old woman doctor with her throat slit was found in her rented flat in Ranjeet Nagar of central Delhi on Wednesday.

The deceased, Dr Garima Mishra, belonging to Uttar Pradesh, was preparing for Doctor of Medicine (MD) entrance examination, said police, adding that they suspect another doctor identified as Chandra Prakash Verma staying in the same building is behind the murder. Police said as Verma is absconding, they have detained his roommate Rakesh, who is a doctor.

“Verma was close to the victim. Like Garima, Verma was also an MD aspirant,” said police. A CCTV footage shows Verma leaving the victim’s house. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central district, Mandeep Singh Randhawa, said a PCR call was received around 12 am following which a police team rushed to the spot and found the body of the doctor in her two-room apartment on the third floor.

"The incident came to light after Garima's cousin had called the landlord at around 11:45 pm on Tuesday to inform him that Garima is not attending her phone call and asked him to check whether everything is fine. When the landlord reached the third floor, he saw the room locked from outside and when he looked through the window he saw Garima lying on the floor in a pool of blood following which he called police," said a police official privy to the probe.

"Garima and Verma both were doing house job as doctor with N C Joshi hospital in Karol Bagh. Garima had quit her job a few months ago and was preparing for MD exam," said the police official.

"A case under appropriate sections has been registered. Police teams are questioning Rakesh to know whereabouts of the suspect. Rakesh told police that he was in house but he didn't hear any voice related to incident," said the DCP.
