Following the AAP’s impressive win in the MCD polls, its convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday promised to “make Delhi clean and beautiful”.
“People of Delhi have now entrusted their son to clean Delhi and rid MCD of corruption, I won’t let them down. Thank & congratulate the people of Delhi for this historic mandate; now we all have to come together and make Delhi clean and beautiful.
“First, the people of Delhi gave us the responsibility of schools, hospitals, electricity and water; we put in day and night but we fixed everything through hard work. Just like we eradicated corruption from the Delhi Government, we have to eradicate corruption from MCD too,” Kejriwal said.
The AAP chief also sought the “blessings” of the Prime Minister and the Central Government for the incoming municipal government, saying, cooperation is required towards the goal of transforming Delhi.
He also appealed to all the 250 councillors to understand that they are the public’s councillors and not of any party and they need to work for Delhi as one team.
“They (BJP) used to say building schools and hospitals doesn’t convert into electoral wins, Delhi has shut everyone’s mouths today. If we spend all our time towards hurling abuses at others instead of focusing on the public issues then how will this country progress,” Kejriwal said.
He further said, “Only AAP is practising positive politics in the country today; this is the fourth election we have won in Delhi on the basis of electricity-water, education-health. To make India No 1, we need positivity, we need to focus on schools, hospitals, electricity, water and issues that matter to a common man’s household.”
“No force in the world will be strong enough to stop India from becoming the strongest nation globally if we all start practising positive politics,” he added.
Post the victory in the polls, celebrations broke out at AAP Headquarters as the party conquered BJP’s 15 year old bastion of MCD, after kicking Congress out of the contest in Assembly elections
Kejriwal reached the AAP headquarters to celebrate the victory with the volunteers of the party. AAP’s anticipation of its thumping victory could be seen from afar. The whole area was decked in blue and yellow balloons while volunteers went around distributing sweets.
However, the atmosphere of celebrations inside the premises was at a different level altogether with party workers and leaders dancing to the beats of dhols.
Welcoming Kejriwal, party workers chanted, “Ache Honge Paanch Saal, MCD Main Bhi Kejriwal”.
The AAP credited the victory to the Kejriwal Model that trumped the BJP’s conspiracies. “Kejriwal Model triumphs over BJP’s conspiracies, AAP scripts history with a landslide victory in MCD,” a jubilant AAP asserted.
The party further said, “AAP is set to get the Mayor seat in MCD as it stunned the BJP in a head-to-head battle and won a clear majority with 134 seats and 42 percent vote share.”
