Kl Vijay Kumar, Adviser to the Internal Finance Department of the Union Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies, was murdered by his wife, Sitha (53), who suspected Vijay’s fidelity. She had installed CCTV cameras at the official residence to keep tabs on him. The cameras were activated only when their domestic help used to visit their house for work.

Police said that both Vijay and Sitha were under depression and Sitha was undergoing treatment for anger management. The investigator recovered three mobile phone jammers from their house. Sitha had installed these gadgets to block cell phone signals, police said. Vijay Kumar sustained three deep stab wounds that punctured his heart. After that Sitha slit his throat, said the investigators. Police have recovered the knife that was used to kill the Joint Secretary-level official, and it has the fingerprints of Sitha, they said.

Kumar was killed by his wife in his sleep. “He had sustained deep stab injuries on the left side of his chest and his throat was slit in a manner that only a small portion of the spine was left,” said a senior police official. Vijay Kumar was killed between 2 am and 4 am on Friday, said forensic experts. Following the fatal attack on Vijay, Sitha went into another room and hung herself from the ventilator which was not very high and that is why her body was found touching the floor of the room.

The only daughter of Vijay Kumar and Sitha, Paranya. claimed that there was some marital discord between her parents. Vijay Kumar and his wife Sitha were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Kaka Nagar on Friday evening. Police said it appears that Sitha had planned the murder-cum suicide as her daughter was away on a trip to Rajasthan with her friends.

Police officials claimed that nothing concrete has come out of the CCTV footages. “Investigations are going on. As of now there is no foul play. The murder weapon is in the shape of a kitchen knife but slightly bigger in size,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East district) P Karunakaran.
