A security guard and his younger brother were murdered by unidentified assailants inside United Christian Senior Secondary School late on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday. Prima facie, robbery appears to be the motive behind the murder of the two brothers as `24,000 was found missing from the principal’s office.
The assailants cut the wires of the CCTV cameras installed in the school and broke open the lock of the principal’s office, said police, adding, it seems the assailants attacked the brothers when they resisted the robbery in the school — located in the high-security Civil lines area of North Delhi — with lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and several IAS and IPS officers residing there.
The bodies of Sunil Kumar (30) and Anil Kumar (22) were spotted by a sweeper Rohit around 7 am, just a few feet from the principal’s office when he came to work on Wednesday, police added. Sunil’s body was lying on a cot while Anil’s body lay on the floor. “There were injury marks on their heads and bodies, as they were hit with rods. Their hands were tied with strings of mosquito net. It is suspected to be a case of robbery as `24,000 was found missing from the principal’s office,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma. The school, however, claimed that Rs40,000 was missing.
Rohit immediately informed the school principal Darwin, who in turn called the police. The crime detection team along with local police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the school. The school was later shut for the day.Sunil Kumar, who worked as the school’s security guard for the last several years  used to sleep on a cot near the principal’s office, every night. His brother Anil, who was doing his graduation, was sleeping next to him. The security guard and his family used to live in the servants quarters located behind the principal’s office. Police questioned several staff members and people living near the school. Sources said the involvement of an insider is also not ruled out.  “As of now no personal enmity is suspected to be the motive behind the murder but we are investigating the case from all the possible angles,” said Verma.
