Voters' faith betrayed: BJP

Slamming AAP’s decision to form a Government in Delhi with the support of ‘corrupt’ Congress, the BJP on Monday said the newbie party, which entered politics with a vow to fight corruption, has not only compromised on its principles but betrayed the faith of the people.

“The AAP had made promises and vowed to fight corruption but today it entered into an alliance with corrupt party and compromised with its principles. The Government being formed in Delhi is a betrayal to Delhi residents as they rejected corrupt Congress in 2013 Assembly elections,” Delhi BJP leader Harsh Vardhan said. BJP’s position on the issue appeared to be in contradiction of its stand as the party had earlier attacked the AAP for shying away from forming a Government when the Congress had offered its support.

Vardhan, who was the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate in Assembly polls, said, “Now they are going to form a Government with the same corrupt party by striking a compromise. But we extend our good wishes to the party on the occasion of Government formation. We pray that they succeed as also the promises which they have made to the people in Delhi.”

Senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta said the AAP’s alliance with the Congress has exposed the real face of the party “whose sole aim was to attain power”. “The Kejriwal-Congress alliance has exposed the secret pact the AAP had with the Congress. We, however, congratulate Kejriwal and his party and expect they live up to the expectations of the Delhiites,” Gupta said, adding the BJP would sit in the Opposition and keep a check over the functioning of the Government.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel cautioned the AAP for any future consequence as a result of its alliance with the Congress. He said the AAP should not put the blame on Congress in case it failed to perform in Delhi as AAP leaders are well aware of the pros and cons of tying up with the Congress. He also advised the debutante party to take care of the words they are using for opponents. “Instead of abusing and blaming others, they should perform and deliver all the promises made before the election. There should be no difference between their words and deed,” he added.
