launching his election campaign against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas faced several protests in Amethi. However, undeterred, he targeted the Congress and the Gandhi family for their failure to bring prosperity in the region.
“No one can prevent me from contesting against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi and I am ready to die for the cause,’’ he said. Addressing a rally, Vishwas hit out at Rahul, saying “whenever the country was in pain, the yuvraj was in Spain.” “I am not afraid of eggs or black flags. When we were not afraid of raising the question of Robert Vadra’s illegal act, how can these things prevent us from coming to AmethiIJ’’ he questioned.
He asked the locals if Rahul Gandhi had raised any issue related to Amethi’s development in the lok Sabha during the last ten years. “Nothing. He did not raise any issue about Amethi. He did not speak a word. When the country needed the yuvraj the most he was out in a foreign country,” he alleged. Vishwas ridiculed Rahul for his publicity stunt by staying at a Dalit’s house in the past. “I will stay in Amethi and will never leave the area or the people,” he claimed.
Claiming that the people of the area are forced to consume low quality sugar, he asked why the Uchahar-Amethi rail track was not laid till now when it was announced way back in 1954. Vishwas criticised the Congress leader and Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma for terming him as a ‘joker’. He said, ‘’I can only say that a joker always brings a smile on the faces of the people but these Congress leaders have only looted the State exchequer.’’ On the occasion, the AAP leader once again sought apology from the Muslim community if any of his poem hurt them.
In Jagdishpur, some Muslim groups showed him black flags when he was on his way to Amethi. Several Congress activists, mostly women, who were celebrating the birthday of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Gauriganj also raised slogans against the AAP leader. They shouted ‘Kumar Vishwas Murdabad, Rahul Gandhi- Priyanka Gandhi zindabad.’
