On a day National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited Shopian district, “hotbed” of terrorism in South Kashmir, series of protests rocked Kashmir Valley in which several “stone pelters” received grievous pellet injuries while some of the security personnel  too sustained injuries.

Unconfirmed reports also claimed tension prevailed in downtown areas of Srinagar following the death of a Class XI student on Monday afternoon.  During clashes between security forces and stone pelters,  “Go India, go back” slogan was heard at several places.

Neither police nor State Government authorities have issued any statement on the exact number of injuries during these protests.

Official sources in SMHS hospital in Srinagar, however, claimed that over one dozen youngsters, participating in the protests, were admitted with pellet injuries to their eyes and other parts of body.

Meanwhile, “unprecedented” clampdown on mobile internet services, landline and modes of communication continued for the third consecutive day in the Valley. In Jammu, however, situation remained peaceful on Wednesday.

Earlier in the morning, Doval, accompanied by DGP Dilbagh Singh and other senior police officers, arrived in Shopian and interacted with a selected group of local citizens.

Doval also relished food in the company of elder citizens and gathered feedback from them over the issue of scrapping Article 370 and bifurcating the State into two Union Territories.
