In a significant development, the Income Tax department has issued a notice to Robert Vadra’s Delhi-based Sky light Hospitality llP asking it to pay Rs 25.8 crore in tax for the assessment year 2010-11. The department has given a 30-day deadline to Vadra, who is director of the company, for the fine.
The 25-page I-T Department report said a re-assessment of the 2010-11 income of the Vadra’s company showed the actual income of the company for that year was nearly Rs 43 crore as against Rs 37 lakh shown in the books. Accordingly, tax payable on this revised income has been determined to be Rs 25.8 crore.
In April this year, the Supreme Court had dismissed a petition filed by Sky light Hospitality challenging the re-assessment notice issued against it in connection with DlF-Sky light Hospitality land deal. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had also dismissed the petition, after which the firm approached the SC.
The I-T Department has also gone into the detail of over Rs 58 crore land deal between Sky light Hospitality and real-estate major DlF, and raised questions about alleged unexplainable sources of income. The I-T Department has noted that Robert Vadra’s company didn’t have sufficient funds on multiple occasions.
According to reports, Robert Vadra’s other company, Bluebreeze, got huge amount of money from DlF as a “loan” and that money was then diverted to Sky light for land acquisition. Interestingly, first the DlF gave Vadra’s company loans to procure land, and then it eventually procured the same piece of land in Shikhopur from Vadra.
Vadra and his Sky light Hospitality are accused in a number of land scam cases in Haryana and Rajasthan.
In August, the BJP Government in Rajasthan had recommended an enquiry by the CBI into land deals in Bikaner with links to Vadra. Of the 18 cases registered in the scam, four were against Vadra’s company.
