The US authorities have identified more than 300 Indian students for deportation in the wake of the sting operation that federal agencies mounted by setting up a completely fake university, called University of Northern New Jersey, to get to the bottom of a visa scam.
Earlier this week, the Department of Justice announced that 21 individuals (10 of them Indian-Americans) have been arrested and charged with fraudulently enabling more than 1,000 foreign nationals to maintain student visas and obtain foreign worker visas through the fake university.
Of the total 1,076 foreign nationals who were enabled under this scam, the authorities have now identified 306 as Indians, saying they are now facing removal proceedings.
The 21 arrested people have been identified as “brokers, recruiters and employers” from across the United States.
