Indicating the failure of “Anti-Romeo” squads set up by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Government as a measure to rein in eve-teasing in Uttar Pradesh, a group of boys molested two girls and a video of the incident uploaded on social media went viral.
As the video clip triggered widespread outrage in the State, police swung into action and arrested one of the miscreants. Four teams had been
formed to track down the absconding ones.
In the video, the group of boys is seen molesting and groping one of the girls. One boy even lifts a girl and forced her to sit on his lap. While the girls are seen pleading with them to let them go, the boys are seen laughing and a few of them shooting the incident.
The incident occurred in a desolate village area of Tanda town in Rampur district.
As per reports, the girls along with their associates had gone to visit a forest area when the group of boys started molested them and thrashing male companions in full public view.
The boys also assaulted a couple, who confronted them.
Giving detailed information, the police said a case has been registered in this connection and the prime accused Shehnawz of Kuwankheda locality under Tanda police station area had been arrested. The police registered a case under sections 354 and 354 b against 14 people and four of them had been identified as Naved, Jahane Alam, Farman and Saddam, all from Tanda police station area.
The SSP Rampur said no one has yet approached the police which have registered an FIR on their own.
The video clipped seemed to have been filmed inside fields where the miscreants were seen groping the girls, he said, adding four teams consisting of sleuths of crime branch and surveillance cell had been pressed into the job to track down the miscreants.
