The Centre on Friday sought detailed report from the Uttar Pradesh Government even as Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav admitted some lapses on the part of his Government on Mathura clashes. Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh also spoke to Akhilesh Yadav, assuring all help to tackle the situation.
“I have also assured him of all possible help from the Centre,” Singh said. The Home Minister expressed his anguish over the loss of lives in Mathura. In a communication, the Home Ministry asked the State Government
to provide a detailed factual report as early as possible on the incident.
“There were some lapses. Police should have gone with full preparation and after holding talks, but there was no information that they would be having so much (arms and ammunition),” said Akhilesh Yadav.
Meanwhile, MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju said the incident shows the lapse from the State administration.
“Definitely there was lapse,” Rijiju told reporters here.
He was replying to a question on whether there was lapse on the part of the Akhilesh Yadav Government in handling the situation. Rijiju said the “unfortunate” incident in Mathura was a matter of “grave concern” and condemnable and action must be taken to improve the situation. “It was a big incident and there was setback,” he said.
