Uttar Pradesh is all set to script history on Tuesday as it started the “largest plantation drive ever on earth” on Monday. The State Government aims to plant 5 crore saplings within a span of 24 hours.

Over eight lakh employees jostled with each other to plant saplings in identified pockets as the campaign was launched at 10 am on Monday.

The previous record of Pakistan’s Sindh Forest Department for maximum trees planted in 24 hours by a team of 300 is 8,47,275.

Bhutan holds the Guinness World Record for maximum trees planted in one hour in Thimphu. On June 2, 2015 a team of 100 volunteers planted 49,672 trees in 60 minutes.

This would be second attempt of UP to register its name in Guinness Book as it has on November 7, 2015 created a record for the “largest distribution of saplings”, donating 1,053,108 saplings to ten locations across Uttar Pradesh.
