After the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted its report on Wednesday stating that Unnao’s BJP MlA Kuldeep Singh Senger may have been involved in the conspiracy behind assaulting the rape victim’s father while in police custody, the accused MlA surrendered at the lucknow SSP’s office late on Wednesday night after the intervention of senior BJP leaders.
Senger — accused of raping the 18-year-old girl of the man who was killed in judicial custody in Unnao — said he is being framed in the case.
The MlA’s surrender came hours after BJP chief Amit Shah reportedly discussed the issue with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his lucknow visit. Sources said the BJP is likely to expel Senger from the party.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to hear next week a plea for a CBI probe into the rape and the custodial death, even as the wife of the accused BJP MlA demanded narco tests on her husband and the rape victim.
The Allahabad High Court posted the matter for hearing on Thursday. Also, it ordered that the body of the victim’s father should not be cremated, if already not done so. However, the mortal remains of the deceased were consigned to the flames on Tuesday, hours after his custodial death.
