Under pressure to quit, MP Guv to put across his point to Prez today

Amid vociferous demand by the Madhya Pradesh Congress for the resignation of State Governor Ram Naresh Yadav over his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) exam scam, Yadav has sought an appointment from President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday to put across his point.

An FIR was registered against the Governor on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the scam. Since then, it was being speculated that he might tender his resignation to the President. There was also reports that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked Yadav to tender his resignation.

However, on Wednesday evening, it was confirmed that the MP Governor has sought an appointment from the President on Thursday. Probably, after meeting him, he might submit his resignation. Sources claimed that the Governor might also meet Rajnath Singh putting forth his point of view in the case and demand CBI probe in the whole case.

Yadav had allegedly recommended the names of five candidates for recruitment as forest guards to the top officials of MPPEB which conducted the examination. The registration of FIR comes following a hearing in the matter in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on February 20 when a division Bench comprising Chief Justices AM Khanwilkar and Alok Aradhe had said the STF is free to proceed against the high dignitary.

The MPPEB scam is a massive admission and recruitment scandal involving politicians and some senior and influential State Government officials and the Governor’s role in it had come under the scanner since the arrest of his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Dhanraj Yadav in MPPEB’s Pre-Medical Test (PMT).

His son Shailesh Yadav’s name too had cropped up during the investigation when an accused had alleged he was paid money for recruitment of contractual teachers. Yadav, a former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, was appointed by the Congress in 2011 and his term was set to end in September 2016.
