Two jawans martyred in Pak shelling

Two soldiers of the Territorial Army were killed during a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday, Defence officials said. The Pakistan Army targeted Forward Posts at Targbal in Gurez sector in which the two soldiers belonging to the 36 battalion of Rashtriya Rifles were martyred.

Heavy firing from across the line of Control (loC) continued for several hours on Monday. One unsuccessful infiltration bid was made by militants in Gurez area this year that resulted into killing of four infiltrators. The sector is generally considered to be safer due to heavy deployment of troops and effective fencing of the loC.

An Army spokesman said that search operation has been launched in the area to track down militants who might have sneaked in during shelling by the Pakistan Army.

The ceasefire violation comes five days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to J&K on November 7.
