The Ministry of External Affairs has sought details of the two Indian nationals detained by Thailand police for questioning in connection with the August 17 bomb blast.  The blast at the Erawan Brahma shrine in Bangkok had killed 20 persons and left more than 100 injured.

According to reports from Bangkok, the two Indians, who were seen on CCTVs talking to a foreign suspect wanted in bombing, have been taken to a military camp for questioning by the Thai police. The two Indians are businessmen and it is learnt that they were released after initial questioning.

The two, reportedly, admitted that they knew the main suspect but denied any role in the terror attack

“We have seen reports on two Indian nationals detained for questioning in connection with the Erawan bomb blast. We don’t know if the detention is a general step to investigate all those who may have come into contact with the suspects of the August 17 blast or for any specific illegal activity on the same or related issue. We have asked for a detailed report from our embassy there in this regard,” said a source in the MEA.

According to reports, the two Indians were taken away for questioning after Bangkok Assistant Police Commissioner General Prawut Thawornsiri led a team to search the Maimuna Garden Home apartment in Minburi at 9 pm on Sunday night. These two Indians were staying in the room next to the one where police found bomb making materials, it added. A foreigner who lived at the room and a Thai woman who rented the room for him are now wanted in the case.

Meanwhile, the national police chief of Thailand on Monday ordered immigration police to intensify screening of foreigners coming and going out of the country following reports that suspects involving in the bomb attack entered the country through Sa Kaew checkpoint. News reports said the order was made after it was found that foreign gangsters of human trafficking and criminals had exploited the negligence of the immigration officers and sneaked into the country to cause chaos and unrest.
