Spurned husband shoots wife, in-laws before killing self
A 30-year-old man shot himself after killing his wife, brother-in-law and father-in-law in Bakhtawarpur Village of Outer district on Wednesday. The accused identified as Sonu was a resident of Barola Village in neighbouring Gautam Budh Nagar district.
His father-in-law Bhopal (55) died on the spot while his wife Poonam (26) and brother-in-law Tarun (24) sustained grievous bullet wounds. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
The incident sent shock waves through this sleepy hamlet on the outskirts of the national Capital. A case of murder has been registered at Alipur Police Station.
Initial investigations have revealed that Sonu was not happy with his marriage. Sonu had come prepared to take revenge on his in-laws for some grudge that he nursed since his marriage about four years ago. He called up Poonam and asked her to meet him at a place near her house. He also did not like his wife’s frequent visits to her parental house.
Poonam had gone to her parental house on Tuesday for her brother Tarun’s wedding which was to take place on Friday.
He came to his in-laws’ house on Wednesday afternoon and asked Poonam to come with him. Since their relationship was strained, Poonam asked her brother Tarun to accompany her.
When they reached the place, Sonu who was in his Santro got out of his car and sat in Tarun’s Esteem to talk.
Apparently things did not turn out well as he murdered them in cold blood and then in a brazen display of unrepentance he drove his car all the way to the in-laws house, leaving the bodies behind in the Esteem car.
Before Bhopal, the girl’s father, who was busy overseeing preparations of sweets for Friday’s wedding, could really fathom what was going on, Sonu fired at him at close range, killing him on the spot. Sonu later committed suicide by shooting himself.
Police later recovered the seven cartridges, sophisticated pistol and a country-made pistol from the pot. The car and the weapons used in the commission of the crime have been seized. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigations are underway.
