Traders' mega rally against sealing on March 28

Intensifying agitation against ongoing sealing drive carried out by the municipal corporations on the direction of ‘Supreme Court Appointed Monitoring Committee’, more than 3,000 trader associations in the national Capital have announced to hold a mega rally on March 28 at Ramlila Ground. The rally will be organised by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary of CAIT, said nearly 3,000 trade associations from across Delhi shall be participating in the bandh. “We are demanding the Central Government to bring a Bill or an Ordinance in current session of Parliament to stop the sealing,” he said. He further said that the Delhi Government should also pass a Bill in the current Assembly Session for moratorium on sealing and forward the same to the Central Government for its approval.

Traders have also been demanding an amnesty scheme declaring status quo on “As is Where is Basis” as on December 31, 2017. On the other hand, the shops which have been sealed should be de-sealed and the Delhi Government should immediately notify 351 roads.

The traders will take out rallies in different parts of Delhi on March 26 to muster support for the rally. “It has also decided to hold meetings and conferences in various markets of Delhi from Friday. We will leave no stone unturned in making the rally a great success,” stated CAIT officials.

Traders in the national Capital hit hard after building department of the municipal corporations had started sealing business establishments for non-payment of conversion charges, encroachment, and illegal construction on the instructions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee. In the drive, thousands of shops have been sealed since last December.
