In a dramatic turn of events, a top Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) commander Nadeem Abrar, arrested from Parimpora on Monday, was killed in the gunfight along with a foreign terrorist in Maloora area of Srinagar in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Soon after his arrest Abrar was escorted to a police station for a joint interrogation. At the time of the arrest police had recovered a pistol and a grenade from the custody of Abrar.
According to police during his interrogation, Abrar told interrogators about more weapons in a house in Maloora.
But when security personnel took him to the location they came under heavy fire. Three CRPF personnel, including an officer, had received injuries during the initial exchange of firing. Police said Abrar had not disclosed to the security forces that his associate, Muslim, a foreign terrorist, was also hiding in the house.
After intermittent exchange of fire Abrar was also killed in the gunfight along with his associate, Muslim, also a LeT terrorist from Pakistan.
Security personnel also recovered two more AK 47 rifles from the encounter site.
Addressing a Press conference in Srinagar on Tuesday IGP, Kashmir range Vijay Kumar said the two LeT terrorists killed in the gunfight in Maloora area of Srinagar were planning “two big attacks” on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway section.
The IGP said the duo had traveled to Srinagar from north Kashmir on Monday morning and “were planning two big attacks at two places”.
Kumar further said Abrar and a Muslim were part of a module -- that included Khurshid, a terroist killed in another encounter in Sopore - responsible for carrying out two separate attacks on security forces in Parimpora and Khushipora in which three CRPF and two Army men were killed respectively.
