At least three heavily armed terrorists were killed by the alert jawans of the Indian Army near the line of Control (loC) in Saujian sector of Poonch on Thursday evening.

“Army troops launched an operation on Thursday when the infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed terrorists was detected by surveillance devices and alert sentries of Indian Army,” Public Relation Officer (PRO), Jammu, lt Col Manish Mehta said.

“The area has been cordoned off. A gun-battle took place between terrorists and Army troops. The search operations were going on till last reports came in,” lt Col Mehta told the media.

There have been no casualties and damage on our own side, he said, adding, the foiled infiltration bid and casualties were a big blow to the nefarious designs of terrorists and their handlers.

Reports suggest that the insurgents were waiting and planning for infiltration across the loC for a long time. Two days ago, a Hizb-ul Mujahideen terrorist was caught in Shopian district in a joint operation by the Army and the police.

last month, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said, ever since the BJP-led Government took office at the Centre, infiltration from across the Pakistan border into the Kashmir Valley has sharply gone down.

“In 2013, there were 297 incidents of infiltration, which decreased to 10 in 2015. In 2014, there were 165 infiltrations,” Rajnath Singh had said.
