Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said on Monday that questioning of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar “is possible in the next couple of days”. Bassi, however, denied media reports that the crime scene in room no 345 of The leela, where Sunanda Pushkar was found dead, was tampered with. “There is no basis to these allegations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tharoor met Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, to explain his position, while Congress spokesperson Randip Surjewala came in support of the embattled Tharoor, accusing the BJP of playing politics with the investigation. “I know that he (Tharoor) has come to Delhi. Our investigation is on and it is possible in the next couple of days or whenever the SIT will find it appropriate, they will question him,” he said. The police chief also did not rule out questioning Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, and said if the SIT finds anything relevant, “that will not be ignored”.
